We are pleased to announce the new Taber model 5820 webbing abrasion tester. This instrument is designed to test the abrasion resistance of seat belts and other webbing materials. It is also suitable for evaluating the abrasion characteristics of narrow fabrics such as safety straps, tiedowns, straps, belts, and harnesses. Materials include nylon, polyester, leather, and other flexible sheet materials.
ASTM D6770-07, FMCSA Part 571.209 and MIL-W-23223B are the standards referenced when testing the abrasion resistance of textile webbing. Using the Taber webbing abrasion tester, a sample is tested to a specified number of test cycles and then a percent retention of breaking force is calculated. The comparison of results to an unabraded sample provides a measure of the material's abrasion resistance.
